FACES OF THE WAVES

FACES OF THE WAVES

Growing up, I was deeply inspired by my parents, who dedicated over 50 years serving the city of Huntington Beach through their volunteer work—my Dad even served as Mayor twice. Their commitment to community left a lasting impression on me, and I’ve found immense joy in carrying that spirit of service forward in my own life.

I launched Faces of the Waves in my hometown of Huntington Beach. This project celebrates the profound sense of belonging found in surf communities—or any community—through portraits and stories. Through this work, I hope to inspire others to connect, celebrate, and cherish the unique bonds that bring us together.

What sparked my love for creating black and white portraits:

When I was 14 years old my Dad handed me his Nikon camera. I photographed two young girls, my very first portraits. That summer he built a darkroom in our backyard and the rest is history. I fell in love with the power of telling stories through portraiture.
